1 Obama and Biden are against a federal marriage amendment and have stated they support States defining marriage parameters. However, Obama recently sent a letter to California homosexual activists, stating that he agrees with their opposition to a statewide ballot initiative to repeal same-sex marriage that was imposed by the California Supreme Court on May 15, 2008. 2 Obama publicly stated he would use the president’s ’bully pulpit’ to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. He made a special trip back to DC to cast the 60th vote in the Senate to pass hate crimes, which was vetoed by President Bush. 7 Biden publicly supports the Employment Non-Discrimination Act; however, it is not known if he approves of including transgender/gender identity.
